Classic Album Covers No.2 - Blind Faith

1969_blindfaith

Blind Faith were an English super group with Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, Stevie Winwood and Ricky Grech. The band  released their first, and only album “Blind Faith” in August of 1969. Although Blind Faith was initially banned in quite a few countries it topped the Billboard’s chart at #1 both in the United States and the UK; and strangely enough it even appeared at #40 on the Black Albums charts. Blind Faith sold more than 500,000 copies within the first month, even though (or because of…) the controversial album cover. The cover was designed by Mick Milligan and it featured a topless young girl holding a phallos shaped air craft in her hands. The cover art was created by Bob Seidemann who is known for his photography of Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead. There were lots of rumours about the girl’s origin, wether she was a groupie of the band, or a mistress of Ginger Baker, but in reality she was just a London suburbanite who posed upon consent by her parents; and for a good fee.
