Classic Album Cover Art No.4 - In The Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson

In the Court of the Crimson King is the famous debut album by the english progressive rock group King Crimson lead by Robert Fripp. The album was released in 1969 and it reached No. 5 on the British charts. The album is generally viewed as one of the most influential progressive rock albums ever.

The legendary, and somewhat scary album cover was painted by Barry Godber who was actually ‘just’ a computer programmer. The paranoid face on the cover is the ‘Schizoid Man’, as in the most famous song on the album, 21st Century Schizoid Man; and on the inside sleeve it’s the Crimson King himself. Unfortunately Barry Godber died of a heart attack in February 1970, shortly after the album’s release. The cover was to be his only painting and is now owned by Robert Fripp.
